Sea Scouts to host open house

Young men and women from both sides of Mobile Bay who thirst for adventure
will have an opportunity to explore neat stuff like kayaking, sailing, scuba
diving, marine navigation, and more. On Monday night, September 15th, at
6p.m., Sea Scout Ship Mobile Bay will host a first-nighter for all
interested youth between the ages of 14 and 21. The event will take place at
the Buccaneer Yacht Club. Participants will have a chance to hear about Sea
Scouting from our youth leadership and tour our boat, Mister Burleigh, a 23’
FUN built by Ranger. There’ll be lots of food and a chance to learn a few
seamanship skills. Weather permitting, we may even go for a quick sail.

Sea Scouting is a coeducational program of the Boy Scouts of America. Sea
Scouts are organized into "ships" and the activities of each unit are
developed by the youth leadership. Sea Scouts learn to handle both power and
sail boats, learn about lifesaving and water safety, and become leaders.
There are opportunities to explore neat stuff like scuba diving, marine
radio, or C.P.R. certification.

If you have questions call Geoffrey Lerner (Ship’s Bos’n), in the evenings
at 478-7879. Or, speak with Rob Gulledge, our Commodore, at 478-0122. Kevin
Archer, our Scout Executive, may be reached at the Scout Office by calling
476-4600.

SSS Mobile Bay is chartered by Government Street United Methodist Church.
The ship meets each Monday night from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at the church,
located at 901 Government Street in downtown Mobile.
