The Spanish Trail Camporee is fast approaching. The date is September 24th
thru the 26th at the Coast Guard Recreation Facility on Dauphin Island. All
WEBELOS Scouts are invited and encouraged to visit. Although they are not allowed
to compete againest the Boy Scouts in the events, they will be allowed to
participate in all the activities except the boat races.
Special requirements must be met before a camping area is approved for Cub
Scout camping. I have completed the necessary paperwork to have the campground
at Fort Gaines approved. The Camping Committee is set to meet on September 8th.
The Chairman, Mark Kigerl, told me there would be no problem in getting
approval.
The sites have electricity and water. Restroom and bath facilities are
available. The cost is $15.00 per site per night. The campground will allow two
tents per site for Scouts at a cost of $7.50 per tent per night. The campground
is right next to the Coast Guard facility. It will only be a short walk to the
camporee.
Make your reservation early for your Den. Call Tina Collier at the campground
(861-2742). Make sure you file your tour permit at least two weeks prior to
the event. Be sure the required signatures are on the front of the form. On the
back, write "Scouts Parents will provide transportation".
>From the Guide to Safe Scouting, Page 21 Paragraph 4 "A Webelos Scout may
participate in overnight den camping when supervised by his parent or guardian.
It is essential that each Webelos Scout be under the supervision of an adult."
If you have any questions, please call me. (639-0112). On behalf of Troop 5
and the entire District, we look forward to seeing you and your boys at the
Fall Camporee.
Thanks,
Jack
