Dear Scouters,

The Commissioner's staff has determined the following service projects =
which need immediate attention, here is the current status:

1. Volunteers of America need immediate warehouse assistance at 755A =
Lakeside Drive, near LA Subs, to pack trucks, 6:30 am- 6:00pm, John =
Roper 421.3050 contact. We need a commitment from all units to =
participate please send to us a time, # of participants, date, ASAP,

2. USA Hospital box lunch/dinner needs for 50-60 people, food must be =
provided, P/B/J is okay, gallons of tea, etc, possibly we as a district =
can round up the food for this endeavor, simple, cheap, non-perishable, =
(some packs MAYBe gearing up to participate here) a important =
requirement will be where to collect the food to make the =
lunches/dinners. Food will need to be cooked or prepared prior to =
distribution at the hospital, hence preparation locations are needed =
(schools, churches), Contact Bart/Stephanie Winkler 753.0319/401.7833,=20

3. Winn-Dixie School supply drive available, further details coming, =
school board is uncertain as to how we can help. It is possible that =
each Charter or school is better equipped to handle this project in that =
they are better able to assess the needs of that school, text books =
hopefully will be available through the county system, and supplies the =
PTA's may donate, or collect for specific numbers of students needing =
supplies. We feel that a district wide drive may be hard to collect and =
determine how to distribute,

4. Food Bank is in need of scout power, this has to be prearranged =
because they can only use 15 people per shift due to space,

These are the immediate projects that can be helped with before school =
reopens. Many other projects will be needed soon and will continue for =
along time. We discussed starting units at the Holliday cruise ship, =
when they begin taking on residents as well.=20

Roundtable this week (Thur) is centered on a collection of data from =
each unit as to their abilities, dates, commitments, and resources to =
participate in short and long-term projects. As we coordinate our =
efforts we can put a "BSA District" face on our efforts, in helping =
others "at all times," and improving some of the damage to the =
reputation of BSA over the past 1-2 years, while teaching the boys true =
service in extreme times of need.

We as a Commissioner's staff strongly need your presence this Thur at =
Roundtable 7:00 pm, there will be no breakouts. In this meeting we will =
have established the schedule, the plans, who, when, where, and then =
break-out to do it!

I need all commissioner's to contact each of your units to report on =
those unit representatives who will attend, by Wednesday night!

If ever could the Boy Scouts of America and a District come together to =
pool our resources, knowledge, and exercise our pursuit as a =
organization, it is now!!!!!

Thank you for all your diligent efforts.

I talked to John Roper. The warehouse hours are 6:30 am to 5:30 or =
6:00 in the evening this week and through this weekend.

Mr. Jack says you need to put this in an email to RT.

I talked to Geoff, I didn't know he had been there with you today.

Mr. Leonard will pass on to his units.

I left a message for Paul Roberts.

I left a message for David Edwards..

I will call Bart, Stephanie, DeWayne & Sheri.

    Dear Commissioners,

    My email is up!

    My new cell is 259-6531.....

For those who did not get the word, understand or could not make the =
emergency meeting today at 4pm. the following was determined:

***we want the boys to have an opportunity to serve prior to their =
return to school, hence the following must be pursued;******

    1. we will assist the food bank and will determine their needs =
Tue am,

    2. I will contact Volunteers' of America and see where we can be =
of service,

    3. Sherri will contact the school board to determine how the =
board will be handling supplies and books for incoming students, and =
those who lost everything, from there we can determine how we can best =
help,

    4. Assembly of God on Knowood will better determine how we can =
help with their distribution to Ocean Springs residents, with their =
numerous loads of commodities that are arriving and will be coming,

    5. It will be determined if we can start a troop and pack or =
several on the Holliday cruise ship which will help boys with "on-board" =
time,

    6. A district wide list and calendar of service needs will be =
presented at RT to sign up all units to participate as a District, even =
if, we are acting on various different projects,

    7. We will need assistance with getting the word out to all unit =
leaders for the RT to come,

    8. We will make use of any advertising etc., Geoff can do at =
Clear Channel to bring awareness and assistance for the projects that we =
tackle.

I see no immediate reason to hold the Comm meeting previously =
scheduled at Banana Docs for the 6th, ***TODAY**** rather we can all =
assemble at the RT for a revised RT where we tie down the districts =
efforts at service. In the meantime let us keep all informed as to what =
information comes available for these projects.

This does not suppose that individual units may participate in other =
service activities, this is intended to be a district effort, calling us =
all together as possible, bringing more "scouting power" to the needy.

Should a unit come a cross a project too big for them to handle we =
certainly need to know so that we can possibly include such in the =
district plan.

Remember, all clean-up, salvage efforts must be kept safe for our =
boys and their leaders.

    YIS,

    Peter Howard
